Position: Electrical Design Engineer - Senior

Position Summary
Assume R&D responsibility for meeting the objectives of and for the design, development, research and coordination of several specific detailed phases of the Company's product development including Induction, Synchronous and D.C. machines. This is to be achieved with only general directions from the supervisor and/or higher level engineers.

Position Responsibilities
* Work on design and development of the Company's products, including the following detailed tasks.

A) Writing the electrical design specifications.

B) Making necessary electrical design and performance calculations including electromagnetic FEA analyses

C) Design induction, synchronous, and/or DC electric machines by selecting best electrical design parameters such as slot dimensions, windings, and materials using equivalent circuit design programs

D) Design induction, synchronous, and/or DC electric machines with drive considerations

E) Working with manufacturing personnel on prototype construction, specifications, and procedures and assist in conducting tests

F) Manage new and existing projects to completion

G) Preparing, creating, modifying computer programs using VB (various types), Fortran, Visual C/C++ for product design, development, and research purposes

H) Participate in preparation of instruction books, service manuals, and similar technical data

* Performs analyses and calculations to determine best designs for new product developments. The example types of analyses are listed but not limited to as follows.

a) Equivalent circuit creation and calculation for various types for electric machines including induction, synchronous, DC, and PM

b) Electromagnetic FEA analysis

* Monitor work processes measures and documents to improve processes, cycle time and performance. Contribute to and provide support to Global Motor R&D in the effort for automated engineering and drafting systems.

* Provide engineering support to the Marketing and application engineers on new product negotiations.

* Consults with customer concerning further product improvements and requirements.

* Incorporate the Standards of Excellence as outlined by TWMC (Pride, Desire, Teamwork, Attention to Detail, Follow-through) into daily activities in order to created a Total Quality environment through personal commitment to excellence.

Perform other related additional responsibilities as assigned.

Scope, Purpose, & Frequency of Contacts

Frequent contacts with engineers, supervisors, and non-supervisory personnel to gather and explain information related to assigned areas of work.

Position Qualifications
* Minimum Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university in Mechanical Engineering; and Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred; and five plus years related Design/R&D Engineer experience and training in WS type medium to large motors; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

* 5 years electric motor design/development experience, medium to large induction, synchronous, and/or PM motors.

* 5 years electric motor (medium and large motor) research and development.

* 5 years of equivalent circuit creation/calculation

* 5 years of electromagnetic FEA analysis for rotating electric machines

* 3 years programming experience for design and development using VB (various types), Fortran, or Visual C

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Chinese language reading and writing skills are strongly preferred for Global R&D activities that involve constant communication with teams in Greater China regions.

Analytical Skills
FEA studies on modal analysis, stress, strain and fatigue. FEA studies on rotor dynamics, noise, structural vibration and noise interaction. FEA studies on thermal and flow. Thermal and flow circuit analysis. FEA studies on bearings and lubrication preferred

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
