TECO-Westinghouse Motor Company, an innovative industry leader in the sale and manufacture of small and large electrical motors, generators and variable frequency drives has an opportunity for a self-motivated individual.       

POSITION TITLE:  Lab Technician Team Leader – Power Electronics

SUMMARY
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to coordinate and lead the efforts of a high-power, state-of-the-art testing laboratory. Test fixtures for electric motors, VFD's and other electronic components will be installed and maintained. A wide range of electronic components will regularly be prototyped and tested. A basic understanding of electric motors, VFD's, transformers, electrical testing equipment and electrical safety procedures is required. Experience with voltages above 1,000V is preferred.

POSITION DUTIES 

  • Supervise laboratory operations, assignments and testing.
  • Delegate work assignments to junior lab technicians.
  • Schedule testing for the best use of test equipment and technician time.
  • Maintain all lab equipment including troubleshooting, repairing and performing preventative maintenance.
  • Install low and medium voltage equipment (120V - 15,500V).
  • Provide assistance with hardware prototypes which may involve machining and assembly of packaging of power converter components.
  • Interface various electrical components with measurement equipment and data acquisition equipment.
  • Populate printed circuit boards with surface mount and through-hole components.
  • Prepare for and conduct a wide range of electrical, thermal and mechanical tests.
  • Documentation of test procedures and test data.
  • Communicate daily with engineers to resolve problems and improve lab functionally.
  • Create customized test fixtures per request.
  • Manage inventory of electronic components for power converters.
  • Oversee and delegate duties to junior lab technicians.
  • Constantly improve the safety integrity of the lab.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in Electrical Technology or similar field; three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Electricians License - Master or Journeyman
  • Five or more years of hand's on experience

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field; five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; or Master's degree (M. A.) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education preferred.
