POSITION SUMMARY

Under general direction of the Director of Information Technology, the purpose of this position is to provide technical guidance, and subject matter expert role in implementing, administrating and maintaining services to support TECO-Westinghouse. This person serves as the subject matter expert to others employees in the support of systems operations as well as network and desktop computer support with a focus on Customer Support. This is a Technical level position, and involves substantial responsibility for the overall health, operations, and security of all computer networks and servers on TECO-Westinghouse systems. It is the expectation that this position will be able to plan for and solve the most complex server issues that may face the Company. This position works closely with the IT Network Administrators and Desktop Support Specialists to give those positions assistance in fulfilling their respective responsibilities to keep all computer operations functioning company-wide. Responsibilities also include but not limited to the installation, operations, upgrade, performance, and monitoring of the network and application servers – as well as security camera and building security systems.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans, designs, monitors, upgrades and troubleshoots server and storage systems with working knowledge of VCenter/VMWare, physical servers, cloud based systems and network storage and SAN systems such as Dell/EMC/Compellent

  • Support VMWare for the enterprise level configurations including understanding of VMWare clusters, VMotion, DRS automation, reporting and related functions
  • Designs, supports and monitors server level backups (CA ArcServ/D2D/UDP) and supports disaster recovery procedures
  • Installs, maintain and troubleshoot servers running all Microsoft server levels (Supported and unsupported)
  • Provides Support for MS Exchange , Office 365 as well as the ability to script complexity with Powershell and advanced outlook configurations
  • Configures and monitors of security systems related to servers systems (SOPHOS Central Ant-virus, Malware software and SaaS, spyware, web-filtering and spam filtration for hardware and applications)
  • Works with peers to develop a document hardware/software standards and integration strategies
  • Recommends, coordinates, and performs evaluations of vendor software
  • Coordinates and performs all server installation activities
  • Perform local area network administration functions
  • Interfaces with users, consultants, technical teams, and vendors for maximum guidance in determining the appropriate type of hardware installation
  • Develops and monitors appropriate security procedures to safeguard system from physical harm and viruses, unauthorized users, and damage to all data
  • Performs maintenance and testing on server and mission critical application software, to include but not limited to software patches and updates, to provide enhanced capabilities, ensure proper performance and server availability
  • Assists Network Engineer in support to end users in desktop/laptop hardware and software support for all TECO-Westinghouse environments
  • Troubleshoots and solves the most complex network connectivity problems, including monitoring the network and servers for problems, diagnosing problems, and taking the appropriate corrective measures to ensure an expedient resolution
  • Installs, administers, supports, and maintains server hardware, peripherals, software, and operating systems
  • Responding to incoming calls, e-mails, or pages regarding network operations and/or problems
  • Assists in planning for the future strategy of networks and servers, and providing budgetary information as needed
  • This role requires being on call on evenings and weekends on a rotational basis
  • Performs other duties as assigned

SCOPE PURPOSE AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS

Frequent contact with personnel in user departments to determine, evaluate and resolve user problems; to gain information about the future needs and desires for planning purposes; and to communicate to them the schedules, plans and status of the IT department and all work.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor degree required in Computer science, engineering or other technical discipline, Server system operational training, or at least ten years of experience in Server support services – including experience with the most complex and difficult server issues – with a demonstrated ability to solve the most complex Server/networking systems issues. Course work in computers and information systems may be substituted for experience. College, business school or specialized training is preferable. Any equivalent combination of experience and training which insures ability to perform the work will be considered.


Good problem solving and remediation skills. Ability to work well independently and part of a team with minimal supervision. Strong customer service skills and the ability to multitask. Good oral, written and documentation skills. Ability to support and mentor junior level staff and communicate with end users on a daily basis. Available and able to be on-call on a rotational basis. Previous experience in help desk environment and associated ticketing software.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong understanding of SaaS services, applications and cloud based services
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and Group Policy configurations
  • Knowledge and understanding of LAN/WAN protocols and troubleshooting skills related to the networking connectivity of all supported devices
  • Continuity of operations practices relating to local area networks, and connectivity to wide area networks
  • Confidentiality rules related to the operation of county functions and Server information
  • Customer service practices that are required to meet and exceed end-user expectations
  • Problem solving with relation to complex computer systems and network operations
  • Oral, written, and one-on-one communications with technical and non-technical users

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages. Apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
