POSITION SUMMARY

The Service Shop Technician performs various tasks related to large electric motor repair, including visual inspection, measurement, testing, cleaning, disassembly, component repair or replacement, and re-assembly after repair. Work is normally performed on-premise, within the shop environment, although there may be occasional need/opportunity to travel in support of field service work.

Work is performed in accordance with established work instructions, specifications, and project specific work plans. Assignments are expected to be performed with general direction, and are received from a Team Leader or Supervisor. The individual will also assist more highly skilled team members and will assist and train lower level team members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Primarily works in the designated service area, but may also be required to work in a variety of manufacturing areas to include machining, winding, coil and other assembly, painting, testing and shipping, on an as needed basis.
  • Visually inspects incoming motors received for repair, noting overall condition, defects & damage.
  • Performs initial disassembly, inspection, testing, and measurement of subassemblies or components.
  • Demonstrates specialized skills such as welding, metals joining, equipment operation, and/or motor manufacturing or repair process knowledge.
  • Performs in-process quality checks to include electrical testing, close tolerance measuring and documentation.
  • Operates move equipment and makes normal overhead crane lifts.
  • Reads and interprets complex manufacturing drawings and process specs.
  • Works in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining a clean work area.
  • Arrives at the work station on time with minimal absences, and adheres to all company policies.
  • Performs quality work and exhibits pride in his/her efforts to meet or exceed standards.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Flexibility to work in other manufacturing areas as/when assigned is required.
  • Compliance with applicable Company policies concerning maintaining a drug free workplace is required.

Must work well and collaborate with team members. Will have some interaction with customers and frequent interaction with workers in other functional areas.

QUALIFICATIONS

To be successful at this job, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school graduate or equivalent. Above average reading, writing, and math skills are required. Minimum of 1 year as a level 1 technician or manufacturing specialist, or 3 years of similar/related electrical and/or mechanical experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and technical drawings. Must be able to understand and follow oral instructions.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, using whole numbers and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Able to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Receives direct assignments from team leader or associate team leader or supervisor. Works with minimal guidance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places and fumes or airborne particles. Other exposures include wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
